Red Mountain Park is a 1,500+ acre urban nature preserve located just minutes from downtown Birmingham, AL, managed by Jefferson County Greenways. The park sits along the Red Mountain Ridge and blends outdoor recreation with preserved industrial history — the area was once a major hematite iron ore mining operation that fueled Birmingham’s rise as “The Magic City.” Mining ceased in 1962, and the park was established in 2007.

The park offers over 18 miles of multi-use hiking and biking trails, treehouses, a sensory trail (the Butler Snow Sensory Trail, designed for visitors with developmental differences or mobility challenges), Remy’s Dog Park (off-leash), pollinator gardens, picnic areas, and remnants of historic mine portals along the trails. Admission and parking are free.
